Silage Workshop & Crap App Pro Launch

This is an event specifically aimed at Contractors and Farmers and will provide unique access to two developmental research programmes. The morning will be focussed on the ensiling of multi-species swards including field trial visit, demonstrations and discussion.

The TOMS research project seeks to determine the best optimum mixtures and conditions which will ensure high quality silage production from diverse forage mixtures - this includes choice of: varieties, cutting time, wilting length, additives – inoculants and enzymes and clamp / bale conditions.

The afternoon will feature the launch of the Farm Crap App Pro - a fully integrated nutrient management planning mobile phone app. This session will include a demonstration of the app and trial of the app by the delegates. The app could provide contractors with a new service to offer clients and farmers a way to progress nutrient management and environmental planning.

9.30 – 10.00 – Reception & Morning Coffee (Selborne Room)

10.00 – 10.30 – Diverse Silage – Ensiling diverse forage mixtures to provide high quality silage including discussion on inoculants and NIR from Kate Le Cocq – Rothamsted Research

10.30 – 1.00 – Field Trip – Visit to multi-species lays and field trials, Farm silage clamps, Forage Harvester Machinery with NIR and visit to our Forage Lab for a practical demonstration of silage analysis.

1.00 – 1.45 – Lunch (Technical Helpdesk available to assist with the download of the app)

1.45 – 2.00 - Farm Crap App Pro – An accurate and reliable way to manage and record slurry spreading information and data on manure from Becky Wilson of Duchy College

2.00 – 2.20 – Farm Crap App Pro Demo – Big screen demonstration of the app from Chris Hodgson Rothamsted Research

2.20 – 2.45 – Testing, Testing – A chance for delegates to try out the new Farm Crap App Pro – additional devices will be available in this session.

2.45 – 3.30 – Over to You - Identifying Strengths, Weaknesses, Gaps and Future Opportunities in utilising multi-species swards for silage and the utilisation of a mobile app for nutrient management. Establishing links between businesses & research projects.
